The CCESD is governed by a five (5) Board of Emergency Services Commissioners. Members of the Board are appointed by the Commissioners’ Court, and each member of the Court is responsible for naming one CCESD commissioner who resides within the district and meets the qualification set by the Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 775.034. The Board members serve one and two year staggered terms; however the tax code allows board members to continue to serve “until a replacement” is appointed.
QUALIFICATIONS
To serve as a member of the board a person must be: (1) At least 18 years of age; and (2) A resident citizen of the state (Sec.775.034).
(A) A qualified voter within areas served by the district; or
(B) The owner of land subject to taxation in the district.
SEATS
The Commissioners Court of a county in which a single-county district is located shall appoint a five member board of emergency services commissioners to serve as the district’s governing body.
TERM
Commissioners will serve a staggered two year term. This will allow three seats to open up one year, and two the next.
MEETING TIMES
The CCESD meets once a month at the Cameron County Emergency Operation Center 964 E. Harrison (2nd Floor) in Brownsville, Texas 78520. The CCESD may hold other meetings as necessary. (Sec. 775.036)
